In Beijing on May 10th SIPRI will convene, together with the China Center for Contemporary World Studies (an influential foreign affairs think-tank affiliated with the Central Committee of the Community Party of China) a one day workshop devoted to Nordic and Chinese cooperation in the Arctic. This will be one of the first occasions that a Chinese official institution has cooperated to discuss the international relations of the Arctic region. The workshop will be a unique opportunity that will bring together leading Chinese and Nordic officials to share knowledge and ideas, but also an exercise in second track diplomacy and confidence building. Ambassador von Uexkull of Sweden will provide a keynote presentation, and several of the local Nordic embassies will be represented. Officials and leading researchers will represent China. Arctic experts from all of the Nordic countries will also participate. The SIPRI Yearbook in Chinese will also be launched.
